In this post, I wanted to try something a little different. I live a mere stone’s throw away from the internationally acclaimed Margaret River Wine Region where there are literally hundreds of vineyards and wineries popping up where dairies and sheep paddocks once dominated. Millions of litres or cabernet, shiraz, merlots and chardonnays are produced here and then shipped around the country and overseas.
So, who better to give some advice on how to prune wine grape vines than those who do it for a living. Each year from April through August, Peter Ravenscroft and a team of willing helpers, contract themselves out to prune grape vines. A few weeks ago, I spent a couple of hours interrogating, observing and filming their pruning activities and have put it together in a short video which you can view here.
